At long last!!!!! It's a horse tale!!

Oh, my gosh, who knew??? I am finally making another post. Mandy reminded me last night that it has been almost a month since my last one. I am always telling myself that this will become a regular activity in my week but then I just put it off and the next thing I know a month has gone by.

Anyways, what I want to tell you is that I went to the MOST awesome horse show 2 weeks ago!!! It was the North Carolina State Fair Hunter/Jumper competition. It ran from Oct 6th through the 10th. This is a show that I will be attending again next year for sure!! This show is held at the Govenor Hunt Horse Complex and they have 3 arenas with one of them totally enclosed with stadium seating. The action was non-stop through out the day that I attended and I must admit that I was like "a kid at the fair"! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love horses and riding so this was the place to be! Lots and lots of very large farms from all over VA, GA, FL, KY,SC, and NC were in attendance and the horses were all incredible!!

This makes me want to resume my lessons ASAP!! I was thinking that during the colder months of December, January and February I could be riding in place of the golfing that I normally do. I am not much for the cold and golfing (even though our courses are open year round in NC) but I do love to ride in the cooler months so this will be perfect!!! Also, as of last check, my butt wasn't getting any smaller so this will definitely be another way in which I could tone up and lose a few of those excess "baby pounds". What's that you say???? My "babies" are 27 and 30 years old now???? Guess that means there is no time to waste in getting in shape!!

Work it!!

Nothing delights me more than reading a funny story or hearing something amusing on the radio. Well, today as I was reading the newspaper I spotted a little article on page 3 that I thought worthy of a post!! Let's refer to these as "post worthy".

The headline for this article was "Students disciplined for stripper pole". Just from that headline I knew that this one was going to be a winner! The article goes on to describe how three students at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL were recently punished for installing a stripper pole in their ON CAMPUS apartment and then taking pictures as fully clothed females performed on it during a recent party. Not only did they perform but they were competing for a prize of a $100 gift certificate to Victoria's Secret. Ah, but of course!!

These enterprising young men had gone to Home Depot (favorite MacLachlan Family store) and purchased a steel pole, bolted it to the cement ceiling in their apartment and then attached the bottom to a plywood stage which they had covered in felt. I wonder what color of felt one uses for a stripper's stage? Red?

Well, the boys and the one girl who won the prize were all disciplined by school officials. The boys have since removed the pole and turned the stage into a ping-pong table. One of the boys was quoted as saying, "Honestly, we just wanted to say we had a stripper pole. We never actually expected girls to dance on it." Yeah, right, boys!! We all believe that one! This kind of reminds me of the movie "Field of Dreams" when someone said "Build it and they will come"................................however, this would be Build it and they will dance! Good job, boys!! I commend you for your creativity.

Hurricanes and Half-Wits

Well, I am finally back on my blog and hopefully will not have to be subjected to the jeers of my children and friends any longer as being a slacker and never posting.

I have been obsessed lately with hurricanes!! I watch them online from the office, tune into the weather channel when at home, check various cities weather news on XM Radio, etc. Recently while staying with my son and his family in Michigan, I was heard to regularly say "Can you turn on CNN for me or maybe the weather channel?? I want to see what's happening with the hurricane." With the exception of the younger kids, everyone else just rolled their eyes and muttered something about obsessions or crazy old woman or something like that.............You see, the problem was that I could not figure out how to effectively run the remote for their television and dishtv system.................but that is another story. Anyways, I was going through withdrawal while in Michigan and was unable to track the storms every move!! Then it was Charley and Francis and now it is Ivan and Jeanne!! Where will Jeanne track? Will it be our next "big one" here in North Carolina??? Will it hit Florida??? When will the rain start from Ivan?? Will the people up in the mountains of NC flood? And last but not least............................WILL MY GOLF BE CANCELLED FOR SATURDAY???? Since the beginning of hurricane season, we have had our golf cancelled on 4 separate occasions! This is serious stuff!!

Now, if you recall I titled this post "Hurricanes and Half-Wits"...................................the half-wits to which I am referring are a couple in Pensacola, Florida. With Hurricane Ivan looming down upon the city, these intelligent(??) parents decided to take their children down to the beach to have a little "look-see" at what the waves were doing......................hmmmmm, the city officials are asking that folks evacuate their homes and seek shelter as the storm is expected to arrive within the next 8 hrs and these folks think it would be a good time to take a short trip to the beach with their small children!! Thats correct........................they have their very young children down at the shore and are standing in the churning surf!!! Now, any halfway intelligent southerner knows about rips tides and undercurrents during storms..................well, let's just say that the tv camera was rolling on these twits and caught it as the mother lifted her small child into her arms only to be caught by a crashing wave and knocked down into the water!! All the while Dad was watching while holding the hand of another small child himself!! When asked what she had been thinking, she replied that maybe it wasn't such a good idea afterall (gee, ya' think??) and then apologized on camera to her mother, who was watching in horror from home, I'm sure!! It never ceases to amaze me that people will not only risk their own lives but involve the lives of their children!! Maybe sometime I will write about why some people should not be allowed to reproduce............................hmmm........................

A whole lotta BULL!!

Well, I can finally say that I have attended a Durham Bull's game!!  I spent the better part of the first few innings trying to capture a clear picture of the "snorting bull" sign whenever our team would score.  I was doing this for none other than amusement of my son, Tripp.   He and I enjoy nothing more than the opportunity to amuse each other....................heck, we enjoy amusing anyone who thinks we are funny!!  WE LOVE AN AUDIENCE!!  I also spent considerable time dialing the cell phone and attempting to leave messages with the sound of cheering fans and the blare of music whenever they would score, however with little success.

Yes, back to my story.................we are at the Bull's game and the peanuts, hot dogs, chips, and assorted beverages are flowing freely!!  I watch the entire game either from the comfort of our air conditioned SkyBox or from the seats outside of our box.    Another company outing carefully planned by the world reknowned event planner...........ME!!   Nobody can plan a more succesful party with someone elses money than me!!  I have been doing this for the last year and half and I must say that I have once again outdone myself!!  :-)

One of the many perks to being the "Event Planner" are the cool freebies you get (Bull's official Championship teeshirt) and also getting your photo taken with various celebrities (Wooley Bull).   About the 5th inning good ol' Wooley Bull appeared in our Sky Box section and started to hug me.  It was at that time that my daughter, Mandy decided she would encourage this creature to kiss and hug me.  Being the "crowd pleaser" that he is Mr. W. Bull not only hugged me but he also buried his teeth in the back of my head in an attempt to kiss me..........all of which Mandy managed to get on camera.

So, I can now say that I have been to the Bull's game in Durham!!  A southern tradition!!  But if you ever decide to attend a game be careful about the "Bull".......................it can really be a bite!!

Hey, nice blog!!

Well, this is my first posting to my new Blog.............whatever that is.  I believe it to be just one of those all purpose words that is all incompassing and really has no specific meaning.   Blog can mean whatever you would like it to mean and nobody can ever really define it when you ask them, "What's a blog"?   My blog will be a place where I will express random thoughts, and a place to post photos and other assorted information that I wish to share with members of my family.
